Mission and Vision

Overview:

The European College of Cancer Nursing exists under the umbrella of the European Oncology Nursing Society (EONS). It was established to advance and promote cancer nursing education and professional development of the cancer nursing workforce across Europe, in order to reduce the cancer burden and improve care for people affected by cancer.

The ECCN offers a collegiate environment promoting and providing cancer education, professional development, and networking opportunities for all nurses working with cancer patients and their carers across Europe to enhance care for people of all ages affected by cancer.

The ECCN will be managed by the Education Working Group who will work closely with all of EONS Working Groups (Research, Communications, Advocacy and the Young Cancer Nurses’ Network integrate their educational activities in the College and support their research, communications and advocacy related to cancer nursing education.

The European College of Cancer Nursing is committed to enabling every nurse who cares for people of all ages affected by cancer to achieve and enhance the highest standards of cancer nursing practice and patient care. Within this vision, the European College of Cancer Nursing has three strategic priorities which underpin the College’s vision of advancing cancer nursing. Our activities and resources will be focused on delivering the following strategic aims:

What we do:

  • Develop, deliver and signpost education and professional development opportunities for nurses who care for people across the age spectrum affected by cancer at all levels of practice and stages of their careers aligned to the EONS Education Framework.
  • Provide networking and mentorship opportunities for early career cancer nurses and the cancer nursing workforce across the career spectrum.
  • Promote and implement the EONS Education Framework for cancer nursing identifying career and education pathways for nurses at all levels of practice and career stages.
  • Collaborate with other health professions and academic organisations across Europe to create inter-professional training opportunities aimed at strengthening oncology health systems.
