EU4Health 2021-2027 – A vision for a healthier European Union - EONS

During the Covid-19 pandemic, cancer nurses have been working tirelessly in the frontline of our healthcare systems to continue patient treatment under the most difficult of circumstances. EONS welcomes the call in EU4health on an inter-specialty cancer training programme. In the EU4Health Programme, the Commission proposes to invest €9.4 billion in strengthening health systems and making them more resilient. (This is compared to the previous Commission proposal for a health strand under the European Social Fund+ of €413 million.) In order to decrease the impact of non-communicable diseases on individuals and society and to reduce premature mortality by one third by 2030, it is also vital to focus on prevention. Cancer nursing training programmes are essential to prevention and to improving patient outcomes.
