EONS YCN Nightingale Challenge Webinar #2

Cancer nurses have been noticed as one of the groups at the greatest risk for psychological distress. Oncology nurses’ chronic stress related to the suboptimal healthcare outcome of patients significantly increases the risk of developing post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, or anxiety. Chronicity of cancer care, exposure to harmful treatments, and extension of life with the concern of sustaining quality, especially treating patients with poor prognoses, may be excessively disruptive. Cancer nurses face multiple ethical challenges, patient fears, deaths, and grieving of patients’ loved ones while providing care. Therefore, chronic distress experienced by oncology nurses arising from immediate, everyday exposures to patient’s suffering together with all other common nurses’ challenges, e.g. excessive workload, and shortage, make them particularly vulnerable to burnout. Join us to get a better understanding of the psychological distress of cancer nurses together with a very own story of burnout experience.
