EONS15 Pain management in people with cancer

Cancer nurses, as part of the multidisciplinary team, are crucial for adequate pain control in patients with cancer as they are in most frequent contact with their patients. They conduct regular assessment of pain, administer medication and evaluate their effect. They empower patients to take control over their own pain management while they are at home by supporting these patients and their families. Cancer nurses have an important role in educating patients and their relatives how to do this, but they also often advocate for a management change. Yet, there still prevail some barriers to effective pain control.
Reasons to participate:

  1. To understand cancer nurses‘ role in cancer pain management (as part of the multidisciplinary team).
  2. To further your understanding of pain mechanism in cancer diagnoses to be able to educate patients and their carers
  3. To better understand the barriers in achieving an adequate cancer pain management.
  4. To discover new possibilities in supporting patients while they are at home (e.g. digital solutions)
